Brewery: Arch Brewing Co.
Type: Ruby, IPA
Thoughts: This beer pours fairly aggressively and sports a big, dense head which becomes less dense over time. Almost like it’s starting to break down, however it leaves great lacing on the glass. It smells like floral hops and sweet, oatmeal and roasted malt with possible signs of banana or vanilla beneath the surface.
The colour is a beautiful, deep copper. You can’t see through to the other side but the light illuminates the entire glass. it’s quite mesmerizing.
Delicious! There’s a sweetness throughout with heavy roasted caramel malt influence. The hops are floral and flavourful but they sit at the outer edges of my mouth while the malt is front and center. It has a medium body, great carbonation and finishes with a small amount of bitterness – but it’s not overbearing. It actually becomes amplified if I press my tongue against the roof of my mouth. I also just read 60 IBU and was surprised! I would never have guessed.
Overall, this is a great beer that gets better as it warms. I dare say it’s a strong contender for Gypsy Tears…
Definitely recommended and definitely a repeatable purchase.
