English Bay Pale Ale

Brewery: Granville Island Brewing Company (Vancouver)

Type: Pale Ale

ABV: 5.0%

IBU: 18

It poured a nice frothy head which left no tracings.  No carbonation, medium bodied.  Has a nice red ale kind of colour.  Great looking beer.  It smells like a vanilla caramel earthy beer. This is 200% a malt beer.  I doubt there’s even a hop in there.  The taste confirms the caramel, and may I add a nuttyness?…. I get a bit of peanut in there.  It’s not bad- it drinks like a brown ale.  Which are not what I would call my favorite beers to date . But it’s, fine.  I’m stumped as to how this beer won a Gold Medal at the 2011 World Beer Championships.
