Dark Horse Stout

4

Brewery: Broadhead Brewing Company

Type: Stout

ABV: 5.5%

Thoughts: The color is one of the darkest I’ve ever seen, alongside other beers like Guinness.

Its aroma has caramel and something sweet, maybe raisins. Upon first sip, many flavors pass by my tongue including the same roasted caramel malt scent detected earlier, a quick sweetness that’s akin to a good English ale; sweet raisin and another fruit like orange. I’m also detecting a small amount of bitterness however it’s not at all intrusive or off-putting.

Lastly, there’s a very pleasantly lingering aftertaste of roasted nuts and coffee. Especially when exhaling through your nose.

Overall, it’s a great beer! Although it’s a different class I’d easily choose this over Guinness because nothing about it tastes artificial or processed. There’s a wonderful balance to this stout that makes it so much less intimidating for less seasoned dark beer drinkers.

Plus, the brewery is literally on the same street that I work on!! You don’t get much more local than that, save for brewing it yourself.

Now that IS intriguing. A stout beer I actually want to try.
